PROJECT

Jeeves Mobile

ROLE

Product manager / Design lead

YEAR

2022 - 2024

The outcome

Our mobile application was terribly under valued by the EPD team and I wanted to change that. I took over as the product manager to help bring a mobile experience that elevated the expense management solution provided by Jeeves.

As acting PM I had 3 core outcomes and metrics I was using to determine success:

+ Increased awareness

+ Increased adoption

→ Extended ecosystem security

The exploration

Starting with the basics I examined what could be refactored vs what needed to be overhauled. The way I handled it was starting with a north star experience for our 3 core personas: The owner / admin, the manager, and the employee and then working backward.

I should note I only had a team of 1 iOS front-end engineer and 1 android front-end engineer. I would have to barter and beg for any back-end development work.

That being said, I had to pare down the initial launch and focus just on the card holder and transaction compliance features.

I also wanted to capture the onboarding experiece, but technical limitations and internal alignment kept it as a mobile web delivery.

What we shipped

Due to a lack of clarity of vision about what our customers expected, wanted, and needed as well as a misalignment on product gtm strategy, we landed on something that looked good enough but didn’t have the depth I or the rest of the team would have liked. However it was shipped and met with radically higher adoption (4x +).

Follow up incremental enhancements

Given the lack of backend engineering resources, but wanting to ensure the team I did have had a full backlog I decided to add some delight and flourish, as well as take an opportunity to work on an experience roadmap of features including an introductory carousel (I hand-drew all of the illustrations inspired by global landmarks.)

I also included a refactor of how we displayed and categorized transactions, and some new in app messaging that wouldn’t require backend support including deep linking and action sheets to help our customers get in and get out.

Here are some designs that either didn’t make the cut or were descoped, but I wanted to showcase them as part of the process.
